Overview

Introduced in 1986 by Nintendo, the Family Computer Disk System was a console system. It is grouped with nes titles in EmulationStation.

Technical specifications

  • CPU: Ricoh 2A03 variant running at 1.79 MHz (NTSC) / 1.66 MHz (PAL) inside the Disk System adaptor.
  • Memory: 2 KB base RAM plus added Disk System RAM (32 KB) for disk buffering and disk-based expansion.
  • Display: Same PPU as the Nintendo Famicom (256×240, 48-color palette, tile/sprite support) powered by the host console.
  • Sound: Ricoh RP2A03's APU with two pulse, one triangle, noise, and optional DPCM; Disk System adds PCM channels via mapper.
