Overview

Introduced in 1987 by NEC, the PC Engine was a console system.

Technical specifications

  • CPU: Hudson Soft HuC6280 8-bit processor running at 7.16 MHz (or 1.79 MHz in low-power mode) with memory mapper.
  • Memory: 8 KB work RAM plus 64 KB video RAM for sprite/tile data.
  • Display: 256×239 resolution with 482 colors per scanline out of a 512-color palette, hardware sprites and scrolling layers.
  • Sound: 6-channel wavetable (PSG) output with DAC for PCM sampling.
