Overview

The Casio PV-1000 was a short-lived 1983 console that shared hardware with the MSX line. REG-Linux emulates it through MAME and keeps it grouped under pv1000 so the theme art matches.

Technical specifications

  • CPU: NEC µPD7801 microcontroller running at 3.58 MHz, essentially a MOS 6502 derivative.
  • Memory: 1 KB of main RAM with cartridge ROM providing extra banked memory.
  • Display: Texas Instruments TMS9918A VDP delivering 256×192 graphics with 16 colors and hardware sprites.
  • Sound: General Instrument AY-3-8910 PSG/generator providing three square-wave channels plus noise.

Quick reference

  • ROM folder: /userdata/roms/pv1000
  • Accepted formats: .bin, .zip, .7z
  • Emulator: MAME
  • System group: pv1000

ROMs

Store each PV-1000 title inside /userdata/roms/pv1000. MAME loads the binaries directly; no extra folder structure or BIOS is required.

Emulators

MAME

Launch PV-1000 titles via MAME ([HOTKEY] + south face button or [Tab] to open the menu) and tweak inputs, DIP switches and overlays on the fly. EmulationStation exposes options such as pv1000.videomode, pv1000.decoration, pv1000.padtokeyboard, the BGFX renderer settings (pv1000.video, pv1000.bgfxbackend, pv1000.bgfxshaders), rotation (pv1000.rotation), SwitchRes (pv1000.switchres), and alternate D-pad orientations (pv1000.altdpad).

Controls

PV-1000 games use a basic D-pad plus a few face buttons. Use the MAME remapping tools or /remapping_controls_per_emulator to adjust the layout when needed.
